Getting started
Install OnScreen
Download the installer for your computer, open it, and you're ready to record. On a Mac, OnScreen also needs permission to record the screen.
Download OnScreen from the download page and try it free for 7 days. If you already bought it, the purchase page and the email you received have the same installers, along with your license key. There’s one installer for Windows and two for Mac.
Windows
OnScreen works on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Download OnScreen-…-win-x64-setup.exe.
- Open it and follow the steps. It installs for your user only, so Windows doesn’t ask for an administrator password.
- OnScreen opens when the installer finishes. You’ll also find it in the Start menu.
Mac
OnScreen works on macOS 13 Ventura or later, and there’s a version for each kind of Mac:
- mac-arm64: Macs with Apple silicon (M1 and later).
- mac-x64: Macs with an Intel processor.
To check yours, open the Apple menu ▸ About This Mac. If it lists a Chip (Apple M1, M2…), download mac-arm64. If it lists a Processor (Intel…), download mac-x64.
- Open the .dmg file.
- Drag OnScreen into the Applications folder.
- Open OnScreen from Applications.
Tip: Open it from Applications, not from the disk image. OnScreen can only update itself when it’s in the Applications folder.
Permission to record the screen
The first time you record, macOS asks whether OnScreen may record your screen. Turn OnScreen on in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Screen Recording, then quit and open OnScreen again. macOS also asks for the camera and the microphone the first time you open the recording bar.
