Export and updates

Updates

OnScreen checks for new versions by itself and installs them when you say so. Your projects and your license stay as they are.

OnScreen looks for a new version a few seconds after it opens, and again every 6 hours while it’s open. There’s nothing to download from the website.

Install an update

When a new version is out, a notice appears in the bottom-left corner of OnScreen with the version number and a short note on what’s new.

  1. Click Update.
  2. OnScreen saves the project you have open and downloads the new version. The notice shows the progress.
  3. It checks that the download is signed by OnScreen, installs it, and opens again by itself.

Your projects and your license stay as they are.

If you click Later, the notice goes away until the next time you open OnScreen.

Check by hand

  1. Open Settings ▸ About.
  2. In the Updates row, click Check for updates.

You’ll see You have the latest version, or a button to update to the new one.

When it can’t update

  • Finish the recording or the export first. OnScreen doesn’t install while you’re recording or exporting. Click Try again when you’re done.
  • Move OnScreen to the Applications folder to update it. On a Mac, OnScreen can’t replace itself when it runs from the disk image. Drag it into Applications and open it from there.
  • Couldn’t reach onscreen.cc. Check your connection and try again. This shows when the computer is offline or can’t reach the site.
