Zoom

Automatic zooms

OnScreen places a zoom on each spot you click, so a new recording opens with its zooms ready. You can run Auto zoom again at any time.

When you finish a recording, OnScreen opens it in the editor with zooms already on the timeline. They come from your clicks: each spot you click on gets its own zoom.

How the zooms are placed

  • One zoom per spot. Clicks close together in time and in the same part of the screen share a zoom. A click somewhere else, or a pause of a few seconds, starts the next one.
  • In place before you click. Each zoom starts about 0.7 s before its first click, so the camera is already there when the click happens. It stays until about 1.5 s after the last click.
  • From spot to spot. When the next zoom comes soon, the current one runs right up to it, so the camera moves from one spot to the next without zooming out in between. Zooms less than 3 s apart are always joined this way.

Automatic zooms use the Focus mode and your default zoom settings. You can change any of them afterwards, like any other zoom. If you didn’t click during part of the recording, that part gets no automatic zooms, but you can add one by hand.

Run Auto zoom again

  1. Open the Zoom panel, or look at the toolbar above the timeline.
  2. Click Auto zoom in the panel, or the Auto zoom from clicks button in the toolbar.

Auto zoom works on every clip in the project. The zooms you already have stay where they are: new zooms only go in the free time between them. It also joins any of your zooms that are less than 3 s apart.

Redo some of the zooms

Since Auto zoom keeps the zooms that are already there, it won’t replace zooms you’ve adjusted. To have it redo part of the video:

  1. Select the zooms you want to replace on the timeline and press Delete.
  2. Click Auto zoom again. New zooms fill the free time.

Tip: To start over, right-click a zoom, choose Select all zooms, press Delete and run Auto zoom again.

Next step

Choose a mode for each zoom, or add zooms of your own.
